International Day Of Happiness

Today is the world's first International Happiness Day, declared by the UN to signal the importance of going beyond Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as a measure of progress.  According to the United Nations, we need better measures of society's real wellbeing -- including happiness.

Recognizing the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings, in 2012, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 20 March the International Day of Happiness.

The International Day of Happiness is an opportunity to reflect on what a good human life looks like and why political, social and economic harmony are so vital.

Below are SON’s five rules for happiness:

  1. Free your heart from hatred.
  2. Free your mind from worries.
  3. Live simply.
  4. Give more.
  5. Expect less.
